OpenRoads Designer is a comprehensive, multi-disciplined 3D modeling application designed to facilitate the delivery of roadway projects from conceptual design through construction.OpenRoads Designer combines traditional plan, profile, and cross-section engineering workflows with 3D parametric modeling to enable model-centric creation of all design deliverables.

OpenRoads Designer supports all aspects of detailed roadway design, including surveying, geotechnical engineering, drainage systems, underground utilities, topography, roadways, roadway facilities, and more. Integration of live grids, imagery, point clouds, and other geo-referenced data sources provides a continuous context of real conditions throughout the design and construction lifecycle.

OpenRoads Designer completes the integration of InRoads, GEOPAK, MX, and PowerCivil, but adds a number of powerful new and innovative features, including:

Progressive Conceptual Design. Users can advance conceptual designs created with OpenRoads ConceptStation directly, retaining all work and data. (OpenRoads ConceptStation can utilize existing backgrounds captured through live grids, point clouds, GIS, and other sources to create presentations with engineering precision and appeal, enabling rapid conceptual and preliminary design.

Conceptual Design All detailed designs in OpenRoads Designer are driven by functional components that automatically respond to their context to represent appropriate design, annotation, and plan set display features. The design model is represented in multiple real-time views, including plan, section, cross-section, and 3D views; changes in one view are dynamically updated in real-time across all views.

Multi-discipline support OpenRoads Designer supports each discipline with specific user profiles dedicated to each discipline. Users can switch specialty perspectives, for example from a roadway design profile to an underground utility profile.

Realistic Modeling Tools: OpenRoads Designer includes a full-featured toolset for merging and editing various types of realistic modeling data, including the ability to extract ground features from realistic grids and LiDAR, as well as reference point clouds and imagery.

Geotechnical Tools. Users can connect directly to the gINT geotechnical database to merge subsurface terrain details into their models for improved road grading and piling. Subsurface topography can be generated or modeled based on borehole material and projected on roadway and drainage system profiles, cross sections, and plans.

Underground Utilities. Users can choose from a rich set of functional components for utilities and emission systems to model underground emission systems and utility networks. Additionally, discharge system models can be optimized for water flow with integrated water analysis tools, with results presented as data tables or intuitive sectional views.

Rich deliverables. The extended collection of deliverables ranges from traditional plan sets and animations to digital construction models, including models of automated machine control and site positioning systems, as well as excavation, grading, piling, and paving models.

Real-time floor plan generation. Floor plan generation functionality no longer has to be a separate process limited to a single point in time, as settings and annotations are dynamically updated and present in the model. Views are saved with specific display rules and table indexes embedded, enabling easy navigation between the model and engineering drawings. Up-to-date drawings can be automatically generated at any time, creating a natural and fluid design environment for modeling and detailing.

Vivid Visualization. OpenRoads Designer integrates directly with Bentley LumenRT for generating cinematic visualizations, adding vegetation, reflecting nature and climate, and using VISSIM for traffic simulation.

Designs created in OpenRoads Designer can be BIM-reviewed in the office, on site, and in the field using OpenRoads Navigator, which not only supports visualization and review of 3D designs, but also supports state visibility, enabling step-by-step approvals and problem solving by dispersed teams.
